7 Card Stud Poker Games

Stud poker is any of a number of poker variants in which each player receives a mix of face-down and face-up cards dealt in multiple betting rounds.

OBJECT OF THE GAME:

The object is to win the “pot,” which is the aggregate of all bets made by all players in any one deal. The pot may be won either by having the highest-ranking poker hand or by making a bet that no other player calls. The following principles apply to nearly all forms of poker.

ROUNDS OF BETTING:

Each player receives one card facedown—his hole card—and one card faceup. The deal is then interrupted for a betting interval. There follow three rounds of dealing, each deal distributing one card faceup to each active player, with a betting interval after each round. There is a showdown in which the hole cards are shown after the fourth and last betting interval. In each betting interval the first bettor is the player with the highest-ranking poker combination in his faceup cards; if two or more players have the same combinations, the “first” one (nearest the dealer’s left) bets first. In the first betting interval the first player must bet at least an established minimum; in any later betting interval he may check.

GAME PLAY:

Seven-card stud is played with two downcards and one upcard dealt before the first betting round, followed by three more upcards (with a betting round after each card) and one more downcard. After the last downcard is dealt, there is a final round of betting. The best five-card poker hand wins the pot.

The Showdown:

If at any point during any of the betting rounds, only one player remains in the game, that player wins the pot. The player's hole cards are not revealed to the other players. This means that if the player had been bluffing - pretending that his hand was highly ranked when it was not, then no-one will be any the wiser.

Otherwise, all players reveal their hands and the highest ranked hand wins the pot and all bets.
